The climate in Norway

The climate in Northern Europe and in the Atlantic-Arctic sector is with its warm and generally ice-free waters with surface temperature departures from the zonal mean of 10-15 ºC in winter- time, a globally unique feature. The reason for this is mainly due to advection of heat by the atmosphere and the North Atlantic Drift system in the ocean. Cyclones are the main transporters of heat into the north Atlantic and variability and possible future changes are closely linked to changes in cyclone paths and numbers. In addition, cyclones are strongly related to extreme weather events both trough strong winds and the transport of moisture
