A readable introduction to probability is given by chapters 1 and 2 in Wilks (1992)[], and in chapter 4 various commonly used theoretical distribution functions are discussed. The topics on probability and distributions are also covered in Von Storch and Zwiers (1999) [], sections I.2 and I.3. A useful reference is also the Numerical Recipes [], Chapter 13, and [], p.548-553.
