CV Atle Nesje (AN), borne 12 April 1956

Professor in Quaternary geology (1997-) at Department of Earth Science, University of Bergen and affiliated professor (professor-II) at the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research in Bergen (2004-). AN has 25 years of research experience in Quaternary geology, physical geography, glaciology, glacial history, palaeoclimatology, geomorphology, and lake sediments in Norway, UK, and Arctic Canada. AN has published 94 papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals, 2 books, 17 book chapters, 42 popular science articles and 146 conference papers. AN currently leads a research group at the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, studying the dynamics of past climate variability. In the nationally coordinated NORPAST-2 research project, funded by Norwegian Research Council (NRC), AN led one of the project modules studying Lateglacial and Holocene climate variability. AN has also been principal investigator, together with Professor John Birks, Department of Biology, Univ. of Bergen, on a Strategic University Program (SUP) entitled «Norwegian palaeoenvironments and climates as reconstructed from lake sediments (NORPEC)», funded by the NRC. AN has 25 years of teaching experience from Department of Geology, Department of Geography and Departments of Earth Science at the University of Bergen and has supervised 13 Master (+3 under supervision) and 6 PhD (+1 under supervision) students. AN is Honoury Professor at the University of Wales (Department of Geography), UK and Associate Editor of the international journal The Holocene.
