The GANS-project formally ended 31. December 2010. 2010 October 2010 - The final workshop for the GANS project was 30. september - 01. October 2010 in Bergen. The workshop had 26 participants from industry and academia. To view agenda click here.
August 2010 - Helge
Tjelmeland, UiB, presented his master thesis 23. August 2010. Title of
thesis: Studiar av havbotnstrukturar i Vigrid-diapirfeltet på
midt-norsk kontinentalmargin".
June 2010 - Sønke
Reiche, UiB, had his master exam on the 8. June 2010. Title of thesis:
High-resolution seismic stratigraphy, sedimentary processes and the
development of the Nyegga pockmark-field at the mid-Norwegian margin.

2010 - Master student Sønke Reiche, UiB, presented a poster on the
Nyegga Pockmark Field at the 29th Nordic Geological Winter Meeting,
11.-13. January, Oslo, Norway. 2009 December 2009 - The final workshop for the GANS project is planned held in September/October 2010. December 2009
- Several posters and talks presenting results from the GANS project
was presented at the AGU Fall meeting in San Fransisco 14.-18. December
2009. See the publication link for an overview. November 2009 - Haflidi Haflidason (UiB), Jurgen Mienert (UiB), Bjørn Kvamme (UiB) and Richard B. Coffin are convenor on the session (OS41A): "Geological Setting of Gas Hydrate Reservoirs and Seeps: A Source for Clean
Energy and/or Storage for CO2" at the AGU Fall 2010 meeting in San Fransisco in December. November 2009 - At the EGU2010 conference
in Vienna 2-7 May 2010 a session on glaciated continental margins,
which might also be of interest for the gas-hydrate community, is to be
held. The is session CL4.8 Glaciated
continental margins - sedimentary processes, architecture, evolution
and implications for paleoclimatic reconstructions. Convener: J. S. Laberg, Co-Conveners: A. Camerlenghi, M. Rebesco, B. Hjelstuen. Abstract dead line is 18. January 2010.
November 2009 - The annual GANS workshop was held at the University of Tromsø, 19-20 october 2009. About 15 presentations were given, summarizing the status on the project so far. The workshop had about 25 participants from academia and industry October 2009 - The summer 2009 issue of Fire in the Ice is now available October 2009 - Agenda for the GANS workshop in Tromsø 19.-20. October 2009 is now available. August 2009 - Espen N. Vaular, UiB, has in Klassekampen, 25. August 2009, written a comment on "Slokk den brennende snøballen" August 2009 - The annual GANS workshop is to be held in Tromsø, 19.-20. October 2009. August 2009 - May Elisabeth Bergh, UiB, starts her master thesis project this autumn. She will be working on the
depositional environment and the diapiric structures on the northern
Vøring Plateau, and she will be connected to the GANS project during
her thesis. August 2009 - Haflidi Haflidason, Jurgen Mienert, Richard B Coffin and Bjørn Kvamme is conveening a session OS05: Geological setting of Gas Hydrate Reservoirs and Seeps: Asource for clean Energy and/or Storage of Co2" at the AGU Fall meeting 2009. Abstract deadline is 3 September June 2009 - Mats
B. Skaug, which in his master thesis has been studying the development of
the Vigrid "diapir" field, had his final exam on the 25th of June. June 2009 - Marta Ekerhovd, which have studied benthic
formas in the Nyegga pockmark field, had her final exam the 15th of June. May 2009 - The spring 2009 issue of Fire in the Ice is now available April 2009
- Several GANS-presentations were held at the EGU
General Assembly meeting 2009 in Vienna. Bunz (UiTø) and
Chen (NGU) gave oral presentations whereas Haflidason (UiB) and
Chand (NGU) presented poster. See publication link for references and
abstracts. March 2009 - The winter 2009 issue of Fire in the Ice is now available March 2009 - Nicolas
Waldmann started as a postdoctor on the GANS project 1. March 2009. He
will be working on seismic data from the Mid-Norwegian margin, and he
is located at the Department of Earth Science, University of Bergen. January 2009 - Haflidi Haflidason and Bjørn Kvamme, UiB, were interviewed in Stavanger Aftenblad 26 January beneath the heading "Omstridt skattejakt på havet bunn" January 2009 -
Marinus den Hartogh, Department of Earth Science, UiB, which has been
connected to the GANS-project trough his master-thesis, had his final exam 23. January 2009. Title of thesis:
"Plio-Pleistocene glacial development of the Vøring Margin" January 2009 - Sevaral posters and talks, presenting results from the GANS-project, were given at the NGF vinterkonferanse held in Bergen 13-15 January 2009. For referecens see "Publications"-link.

November the 2nd GANS workshop was held at NGU, Trondheim, where the
overall status of the project was summarises in serveral talks.
More than 30 people from industry and academica participated. November 2008 - Agenda for the GANS workshop in Trondheim 24.-25. November 2008 is now available. October 2008 - Several GANS-participants were interviewed in Dagens Næringsliv 18. October 2008 beneath the title "Himmel og helvete på havdypet". September 2008 - A
project meeting between participants from NGU (Shyam Chand, Leif
Rise) & Department of Earth Science (Haflidi Haflidason, Berit
Hjelstuen) was held at the University of Bergen 4th and 5th of
September. Further plans and seismic interpretation done
so far were discussed. Minutes of meeting availabe here. September 2008- This years GANS workshop will be held at NGU, Trondheim, 24. and 25. November. August 2008 - Three
UiB master students join the project this autumn. Helge B. Tjelmeland is to look at sediment cores from the Vigrid Diapir Field.
Sônke Reiche will be doing interpretation of the TOPAS-data collected
in the Nyegga pockmark region this summer, and Marinus den Hartogh will
be study the Naust Fm on the south Vøring Plateau. August 2008 - Several
posters, related to the GANS-project, were presented at the 33rd
International Geological Congress in Oslo this week (see references in
the publications-link). July 2008 - Follow this years GANS-cruise to the Vøring Plateau with G.O. Sars on the web. July 2008 - A preliminary program
for the 9th International conference on gas in marine sediments is now
available. A UiB poster related to the GANS project will be presented.
July 2008 - The Sommer 2008 issue of Fire in the Ice is now available June 2008 - Bjørn
Kvamme (UiB), Haflidi Haflidason (UiB) and Espen Sletten Andersen
(StatoilHydro) participated on the CCOP-PETRAD-PETROVIETNAM arranged
workshop on "The challenges of extracting gas hydrates as an envirnomentally friendly source of energy and storing CO2 in gas hydrates reservoir" in Hanoim, Vietnam, 3-6 June. May 2008 - The 6th international workshop on methan hydrate research
was held in Bergen 13.-15. May 2008. About 50 participants from
academia and industry particiapted. Two UiB-poster related to the
GANS-prosject were presented (see references in the publications-link). May 2008 - An international conference on gas in marine sediments is to be held at the University of Bremen, 15-19 september 2008. Abstract deadline is 16. June. May 2008 - Haflidi Haflidason is interviewed in the May number of PETROMAKS faktaark. April 2008 - The 6th International Workshop on Methane Hydrate Research & Development is to be held in Bergen, 13.-15. May 2008. April 2008 - The Spring 2008 issue of Fire in the Ice is now available April 2008

2007 December 2007 - Bjørn Kvamme, Haflidi Haflidason and Berit Hjelstuen are interviewed about the GANS project in the December number of HUBRO, an internal newspaper for the University of Bergen.

November 2007 - Due to bad weather it was not possible to collect the planned cores during the GANS cruise with R/V Jan Mayen to western Svalbard margin.

GANS-cruise to the western Svalbard margin with R/V Jan Mayen is taking
place the second half of October. During the cruise cores is to be
collected.

project meeting between the Task A and Task B members was held at NGU,
Trondheim 5th of October. Further plans and seismic interpretation done
so far was discussed.
September 2007 - Mats
Skaug, Department of Earth Science, UiB, is starting on his master
this autumn. In his master project he will work on seismic data (2D, 3D,
TOPAS) from the Vigrid diapir field, Vøring Plateau.
August 2007 -
A master student, Marta Ekerhovd, is from august 2007 connected to
the GANS project at the Department of Earth Science, UiB. She is going to study gas seeping in the Nyegga area based on
studies of bentic forams and stable isotopes.
August 2007 - Jurg Pedersen
(from the University of Kiel) is employed as a Post Doc on the GANS
project at the Department of Geology, UiTø.- June 2007
- Christine Zuhlsdorff is employed as a Post Doc at the Department of
Earth Science, UiB. She is going to work on cores sampled within the
GANS study area during the project period.
2006
Espen Nesheim Vaular, Department of Chemistry at UiB, is employed as a pHD student on the GANS project.
