Research

My main research interest is development, management and use of enterprise models which support IS development and operations, in particular enterprise models for interoperability between enterprises and their information systems. I focus on models and languages that integrate the various perspectives of stakeholders tightly and that may embed multiple partial models for different uses and purposes.

My main current research projects are:

  • Unified Enterprise Modelling Language (UEML): I am involved in the development of a unified modelling language for enterprises and their information systems. For details on UEML, see the uemlwiki.
  • Security requirements: I participate in the NFR-funded ReqSec project (2008-2011), a collaboration with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). For details, see the Misuse Case Wiki.
  • Mobile information systems for knowledge workers: I am involved in the NFR-funded Model-Driven Multi-Channel Mobile Work (M3W) project (2006-2010), also a collaboration with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
  • Process-modelling practice in Norway (PMP): I am collaborating with the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration and Agder University on studies of practical process modelling in Norway.

Other research interests are:

  • Security requirements determination (since 2000)
  • Ontological analysis and evaluation of enterprise and IS modelling languages (since 1998)
  • Facet modelling (since 1994)
  • Understanding Information Systems Architecture (since 1994)

In the past, I have also carried out research on software performance evaluation (on which I did my Ph D) and several other areas. For more information on my longer term interests, see my research page or the ISGroup Wiki.

Teaching

I mostly give courses in information systems development and architecture, and sometimes basic information technology. For more information, see my teaching page.
