PHYS261: TASK FOR THE WEEK 11 - 17 th September 2006


1. Please consider the table at

Explain what are the first ionization potential
second ionization potential and the the total binding energy.

If possible, illustrate by a simple drawing or level diagram
(the repulsion is important)

Explain the rest of the table.

The evaluation of the repulsion term has been explained last week,
but we simply need the result 5/8 times Z.

2. FROM LAST TIME:
  Task: try to evaluate the repulsion integral.

The answers can be scanned (or produced) and send electronically,
or they can be submitted next week in paper form.
