Bio

Tore Furevik (52): Director Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center and Adjunct professor at the Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen. He is a board member of the University of the Arctic , The Centre for research based innovation Climate Futures and the climate festival VarmereVåtereVillere . He is in the Norwegian National Comission for UNESCO , and member of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences and Norwegian Scientific Academy for polar research. Furevik's main research focus is on climate modeling, large-scale variability in the atmosphere and ocean, air-sea-ice interactions, and teleconnections. He has more than 50 publications in international peer-reviewed journals or books ( Google Scholar : 3483 citations, H index 31; Web of Science : 1840 citations, H index 23), and been an expert referee for numerous journals and research councils. He initiated and coordinated the Norwegian research school in climate dynamics (2009-2017) and several US-Norway and China-Norway partnership programs and has organized numerous international PhD training courses and summer schools. Furevik has given some 150 popular lectures and 750 media interviews.
