Zone broadening

The animations illustrate the effect of the B term (longitudinal diffusion) and the C term (resistence to mass transfer) in a system with varying mobile phase velocity. For capillary columns the Golay equation explains zone broadening by these two phenomena. The B term dominates at low velocities and the C term dominates at high velocities, The velocity where the effect of the two terms balance is the velocity that will minimize plate height, H. The resulting golay equations are given below the animations.
