Cand. Sc. Study
My thesis for the Cand. Scient. Degree was based on X-ray
measurements and electron measurements from a sounding rocket, PULSAUR
II.
The rocket was launced February 9 1994 from
Andøya Rocket Range into a pulsating aurora occuring
during the recovery phase of a substorm..
Main issues were:
Deriving the precipitating electron fluxes
from the X-ray measurements.
Generating
mechanism causing the pulsating aurora.
In addition to the Master thesis this study resulted in two publications
:
N. Østgaard, J. Stadsnes, K. Aarsnes, F. Søraas, Karl Måseide, M. Smith and J.Sharber, Simultaneous
Measurements of X-rays and Electrons During a Pulsating Aurora. Ann. Geophysicae, 16, 148 - 160, 1998.
